About me
My story
I started skiing super young, and gravitated towards it more as a competitive sport when I was in middle school. At that time, it was fun for me because I was good, and although I did enjoy the tactical aspects of racing, it wasn’t really fun for me until I was able to get over extreme nervousness and enjoy racing for all of the other fun parts that I’ve really come to enjoy, such as pushing myself, getting scrappy on the trails, and competing with people I really like.
Outside of skiing, I’ve always liked doing classic Alaskan things like fishing in Kenai and enjoying nature through training. I also am taking classes at University of Alaska Anchorage in pursuit of a Civil Engineering degree. It’ll definitely take me more than 4 years, but my goal is to be done in less than 8 (slow, I know, but so many classes are hard to take when you won’t be around much). I’ve also taken up motocross riding in the summer (around once a week) to help break up training a little bit and give me another skill to work on, I think it really helps my ability to learn physiologically, and its also super fun. I don’t push it that hard, don’t worry.
Within training, my favorite things to do are long runs (especially if they’re pretty) and finishing hard skate intervals. That post-max effort feeling is one of the best in the biz. One thing I don’t like that much right now is waxing and ski knowledge/testing, but that’s something I’m working on, as knowing what skis to use in what conditions is super important if you want to show up on fast skis.
